OVERVIEW: Bible Blast Off!

Memory Verses: "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:105

and "I have hidden your word in my heart so that I won't sin against you." Psalm 119:11

Theme: Learning Bible skills will help us as we read and study the Bible.

Objectives and Life Application:

  • Children will understand that the Bible is the "inspired Word of God."
  • Children will understand that reading the Bible will help them know who God is and his plan for them and the world.
  • Children will recognize the Bible as a "library" or collection of smaller books that fit together to "tell the one big story."
  • Children will learn about the first Bible records.
  • Children will memorize the books of the Bible in order through song.
  • Children will learn about the structure of the Bible:
  • Younger children: two testaments, some categories of books (law, history, poetry, prophets, gospels, letters)
  • Older children: the above in more detail and be able to properly categorize the books of the Bible
  • Older children will learn to locate scriptures.
  • Children will memorize Psalm 119:11 or 119:105

Overview of the Workshops:

Sunday Morning Live (Music)
Activities: Use a closing 15 minute period each week to review the Bible songs for this rotation. Include Bible Books, Thy Word for scripture memory, He is the Rock, Rock of Ages, Count to Ten (10 Commandments)

Focus: Bible Books, memory work, praising God through song

Raiders of the Lost Art

Activities: Make paper and then turn into scrolls, write on clay potsherds, make clay jars to hold scrolls, make large urn to hold CyberSpace Scroll.

Focus: How the Bible was written, accuracy of Bible, Dead Sea Scrolls discovery

HolyWord Theatre

Activities: View video "Stephen's Test of Faith"

Focus: Christian martyrs, purpose of Bible, truth of scripture

Bible Quest

Grades 3-6: Computer Exploration and Bible memory games

Grades 1-2: Bible Memory games, relays, matching games, etc.

Focus: Study skills, Bible use skills, Bible memory work

Solid Rock Cafe

Activities: "One Big Story," "Sweet little Bibles," New Testament Treasure Hunt

Focus: Bible as guide or instruction manual for life, Bible tells us more about God

CyberSpace

Activities: Create giant scroll telling the "One Big Story." Research some of the main characters in the Bible and display on the scroll.

Focus: Bible Skills, "One Big Story"
